Former Liverpool striker Florent Sinama Pongolle has shed light on an extraordinary X-rated dressing room bust-up between Steven Gerrard and El Hadji Diouf.

It is well documented that there is no love lost between the former Liverpool duo, with Diouf having launched a series of verbal attacks on Gerrard since leaving Anfield back in 2005.

Diouf has previously accused the former Liverpool captain of 'killing' the club and being 'jealous' of his talent.

And now Pongolle has revealed the extent of the pair's animosity by recalling an astonishing half-time row between Gerrard and Diouf during a pre-season friendly.

'Half-time of a pre-season game.

Fight between Diouf and Gerrard. I was traumatised,' Pongolle told journalist Walid Acherchour, via Sport Witness.

'Can you imagine the young ones seeing this and thinking that's what professionals are like at that level?

'At half-time, in the dressing room.

Stevie G is all like, "You have to pass, you have to pass" and [Diouf] just loses it.

'He didn't speak English. His English was rubbish. You know what he did? They hated each other so much. Steven Gerrard arrives, he insults Diouf.
"Hey, you f*****".

'And [Diouf] couldn't answer, so he grabs [former Liverpool boss] Gerard Houllier and says: "Tell him, I'll f*** his mum".

The long-running war of words between the the pair was previously reopened in 2017 when Diouf, in an interview with the BBC, said he had 'no problem' with then-Liverpool Under 18s boss Gerrard, before taking an inevitable swipe.

'I have no problem with him,' Diouf said.

'He [Gerrard] is a strong character and I am a strong character.

'Stevie G was a very good player. People like him in Liverpool but he never did anything for his country.

'I am Mr El Hadji Diouf, Mr Senegal but he is Mr Liverpool and Senegal is bigger than Liverpool and he has to know that.'

Diouf left Liverpool for Bolton in 2005, after a season on loan with them, after scoring just six goals in 80 appearances for the Premier League giants,

Gerrard, on the other hand, would go on to cement his place as one of the club's greatest-ever players, his highlight winning the Champions League in Istanbul in 2005.

The feud between the two began back in 2007, when Gerrard talked about Diouf in his autobiography.

'I wasn't Diouf's No 1 fan,' Gerrard, now Rangers manager, wrote. 'Being around Melwood and Anfield I knew which players were hungry, which players had Liverpool at heart.

Diouf was just interested in himself.

'His attitude was all wrong. I felt he wasn't really a***d about putting his body on the line to get Liverpool back at the top.'

Diouf responded five years later, calling Gerrard 'jealous'.

'Gerrard was jealous of me back then as I had the world at my feet.

There's no one more selfish... he doesn't care about anyone else.

'Gerrard would rather Liverpool lost and he scored. The old Liverpool guys can't stand him. I won't even start with [Jamie] Carragher.'

In 2015 he was reported to have made a claim on Senegalese radio that Gerrard 'has never liked black people', which the former Reds captain immediately rebuked.

Gerrard and Diouf were team-mates the night the striker spat at a Celtic fan during a 1-1 draw in the UEFA Cup in Glasgow towards the end of the 2002-03 season.

Diouf's actions sparked trouble in the crowd and the player was interviewed by police, banned for two games and fined two weeks wages.

Houllier told him at the time: 'The stigma of what you did will follow you round for the rest of your career.

You'll never live it down.'

Diouf had a brief spell at Rangers on loan in 2011 and famously clashed with Celtic captain Scott Brown during an Old Firm game with the Hoops man celebrating in his opponent's face after scoring.
